Fighting Cacti Men end tough weekend on a high note

The Copper Mountain Men's Basketball team traveld down to the 51st annual Grossmont College Classic this weekend.  The weekend started on a tough note, as the men blew their lead late to lose to the host, Grossmont College Griffins.  The Fighting Cacti's defense had the Griffins guessing throughout the first half as the CMC men took a 3 point lead in at halftime.  The Griffins shooting got hot in the second half while the Fighting Cacti, took some ill advised shots allowing the Griffins to gain the lead late.   In the second game, injuries and cold shooting led to the lowest offensive output from the Figthing Cacti this season as they lost 81-59 to Moorpark College.  The Copper Mountain men gathered themselves and showed their pride and intesity as they battled the Palomar Collge Comets to end the weekend this morning.  Defense was what this team is built on and the Cacti came out aggressive again confusing and confouding the Comets on the offensive end.  The Fighting Cacti held the Comets to 23% shooting from behind the arc and won the rebounding battle 34-31.  The final game was a true team effort as the Cacti shared the ball, which was seen in the stat line, as Copper Mountain had 20 assists on 27 field goal attempts.  The win brings the Cacti record to 4-4 for the season.  The Fighting Cacti return home this Saturday December 9th versus Cuesta College.  The game will be held at the Bell Center on the beautiful campus of Copper Mountain College, tip off is at 5pm.
