Fighting Cacti win first game on the road

Fighting Cacti win first game on the road

"Cardiac Kids", that is how Coach Santa Cruz describes this years team.  "These young men think its funny to keep giving me heart attacks every night!  They are good guys doing their best to learn together and compete. The fact that they are learning to stick together and play for one another will go a long way as the year progresses."   The Fighting Cacti overcame a nine point halftime deficit to pull out a 69-63 win against Imperial Valley College.  CMC could not make a shot in the first half, they continued to get good looks but the ball was just not falling for them.  The Imperial Valley Men capitalized on the Cacti's shooting woes and held control for the entire first half.  In the second half, CMC started to turn up their defensive pressure and were able to get a few steals and layups which led to Copper Mountain pulling even with Imperial Valley with 14 minutes left in the second half.  Phil Bernardez had a big night on the offensive boards which led to multiple opportunites for the Fighting Cacti, his effort on the boards along with Jordan Montgomery's 21 points and DJ Ralston's 16 points led to a whole team effort to earn this victory.  The Fighting Cacti will now take a few days off before they travel down to face MiraCosta College on November 29th @ 3pm
