Women’s Basketball Amazing Start Ends in Defeat

The CMC Fighting Cacti (1-6) caught the Glendale Arizona Guachos by surprise with a high-intensity start, but lost momentum throughout the game, falling 83-37.
Pushing the pace for Copper Mountain was freshman starting forward Kearra Tauta as she collected 17 points and had 18 rebounds, earning her second double-double on the season. In her top-scoring game of 2019, Tuata maintained 50% on the free-throw line and hit three from beyond the arc.

The second quarter would be a struggle for the Fighting Cacti, as they were only able to add three points to the scoreboard against Glendale's full-court pressure. Copper Mountain was then able to find the same intensity they started the game with as the third quarter would be their highest-scoring quarter with a total of 13 points.
Sophomore starting guard Niy'Asia Julienne added seven points and had five rebounds and two steals. Patricia Muao was the third leading scorer for Copper Mountain, with 50% from the field for six points against the Gauchos. It would not be enough to take down the Gauchos as the Fighting Cacti fell, 83-37. "We have been decimated by injuries during the start of the season. I am happy with the way the girls competed throughout. Hopefully, we will see our full by mid-December leading into conference play," said Coach Ken Simonds.

Copper Mountain faces San Diego Mesa (3-4) on Wednesday, December 4th before competing in their first-ever IEAC match against the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles (1-2) in San Jacinto on Wednesday, December 11th.
